Costello &amp; Assoc<\/a>., Inc. of Redondo Beach, California signed an agreement to provide engineering design services to Epurga, Inc. of Port Cates, Tennessee for the scale-up of their proprietary aromatics technology. This technology converts municipal solid waste (MSW) to <a href=\"http:\/\/rccostello.com\/wordpress\/engineering-expertise\/syngas-cleanup-purification\/\">syngas<\/a>, and then to bio aromatic compounds that are traditionally produced from petroleum. Typical compounds produced will include toluene, mixed xylenes, octane enhancers, methylnaphthalenes and feed for the production of Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN). Bio based xylene can be converted to terephthalic acid and then polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for the production of bio-based PET water bottles. This technology was developed by Mark G. White, Ph.D., formerly a tenured professor at Mississippi State University. This technology uses a patented, proprietary catalyst for the conversion of syngas to aromatic compounds. Rocky Costello says, \u201cWe are excited to be a part of this project, as it offers an alternative to Fischer-Tropsch technology and produces higher priced products. This technology can also be used for the production of aromatics from natural gas.\u201d Michael Harrelson, President of Epurga says, \u201cWe are excited to bring this technology Dr. White invented, which proves traditional petrochemicals can now be produced from biomass.
